Works great
This was a great addition to our school science project. We initially tried making homemade agar but didn’t have success, so we had to move quickly to allow time for bacteria to grow. These pre-filled trays were a huge help. Just be sure to carefully read and follow all the instructions—especially the steps for incubating after swabbing.

Recommended for kids fasinated with science!
Wow! What a nice kit! Did this with my 11 year old since he was interested in doing it, results were great! Setting it up was easy and simple, with no struggle at all. Would recommend to have a incubator before starting this to have a better place for bacteria to grow, but otherwise it is a wonderful kit!

Fine for me as a beginner
These were nice to use... no moving and pouring. My only issue was that one was contaminated and had something growing in it. They also aren't sealed in any way, so you do have to be mindful when pulling one out of the packaging, to assure you don't contaminate any of the others.

Did not work out for me
Product arrived in good shape. Stored unopened at room temperature (as directed) for 6 weeks and when I went to use them every single one was contaminated and smelled awful.I have purchased agar plates from other sources before and have not had this issue.

Petri dish kit
Everything came carefully packed and accompanied by the instructions. We only returned the dishes, because my son changed his mind on the project he wanted to do.

This was a wonderful set. It came with 10 Luria Broth agar plates, 10 single sided cotton swabs and wonderful step by step instructions. The packaging of the the items was wonderful and they all arrived without any cracks or chips, with the agar in tact.My daughter and I decided to swab 10 random things around our house to see what was living on them for a school science experiment. Since most of the surfaces were dry, we added just a little bottled water to the end of the swab. We carefully labelled each plate and started swabbing. After swiping the cotton swabs onto the agar plates, we stacked them back into the box they came in and sealed them. We did not have an incubator, so we decided to put the box in our garage. We live in Arizona, so the garage is still nice and warm this time of year. We checked the plates after 3 days and saw plenty of growth, but decided to put it away for another few days. We were not disappointed in our results, although we are unsure how we are still alive! I cannot believe the variety of bacteria and fungus that can live in such a small area. It made me want to Lysol my whole house :)I wish there was a good way to identify what was growing, but I know that involves a lot more steps, extra materials and a whole lot of know how that I do not have. My daughter was quite content just to look at the specimens through our microscope and we were able to get some very cool photos through the plastic lid. The micro world we can barely see is absolutely amazing to look at! I have attached a few of the photos below. If anyone sees the photos and identifies anything that could potentially kill us, please leave a comment below :P
