A film I could watch again and again and again and...
I've resisted watching this film for so long, and only caved in when the offer came along! It was great to see a fairly old and much referenced movie for the first time, and what a treat too!I'm not sure what I was expecting, I didn't even know the "story" until just after it was delivered, but it was a nice film to watch and, despite the time-looping that is thankfully never explained, it manages to be creatively repetitive in way that illuminate the changes that Phil Connors/Bill Murray undergoes as he realises and profits from his time-looping and the complete reset that each night brings. It isn't a film you come to for insights into people, but they're there all the same - nicely done!It isn't fall-about comedy - although we laughed often enough - but more subtle humour that is all about timing and delivery. In fact it's often not a funny film, but more situational and setting up expectations as to what's coming next, only to find humour in how Phil/Bill deals with it. I have to admit that with a couple of decades build-up I was expecting to be a little disappointed, instead I think we've found another Christmas eve film to join other things in a similar vein such as Maverick (funnier), the Despicable Me/Toy Story franchises and such films that go nicely with some forbidden food and a tipple or two, all while cuddled in front of the box!

1st, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd...
Arrived swiftly and in perfect condition. The film is obviously great and whilst the quality in Bluray isn't going to blow your mind, it does make for a nice little upgrade. There are some nice behind the scene features including the late Harold Ramis talking about how the film has had an impact on so many different communities since its release which was nice to watch. Also includes the usual behind the scene material. Overall, very satisfied!

A Cultural Landmark
What more can be said about the masterpiece that is Groundhog Day? An odd mix between Back To The Future (I) and Ovid's Metamorphoses, the tale of Phil Connor's ten thousand years (the scriptwriter's estimate) reliving same day just so that he can become an ordinary, reasonable person remains the most rewatchable examination of pathological narcissism available to date. For adult viewers given to discussing such things over bottles of vino, this could do well as a double bill with the later and much darker Collosal.

Fun film, even on repeated viewing
We watched this film for the first time in ages, and were pleasantly surprised by how little it's dated. You actually pick up more on a second or third viewing because you're not trying to get your head round the concept like you are first time around. Bill Murray is excellent, and even Andie McDowell is tolerable (I usually cringe at her saccharine performances). And some bits are genuinely really funny - even our daughter thought so, so it was a good film to watch as a family.

finally watched it
If you had one day to live over and over again what would you do? that was the most interesting part of the film and it ended up being funny, charming and genuinely touching, I did cry at the end. I did feel at times as though I was being forcefed a moral which I didn't like and I'm still not sure if that was intentional - but there were enough laughs and charm to distract me from that. I was a bit disappointed by the ending because I really wanted an explanation, also it was a bit simplistic and unlikely even if he did have 1000 chances or maybe I'm just being cynical. Definitely worth watching.

Fantastic Film
This is one of my all-time favourites. It shows the journey of one obnoxious man who repeats a day hundreds of times until he finally redeems himself and becomes a good, unselfish and kind human being. The lead characters are great, with Murray just right as the wise-cracking big mouth and MacDowell looking gorgeous and doing a great job as the sweet and kind producer. All the supporting actors play their parts well in making this a real feel-good film at the end.I really liked the scenes at the dance towards the end, where all the good things he'd learned and done finally came together. It even seems realistic in the way that he goes from hedonistic, unfettered excess through to the kind, unselfish and helpful deeds which make him the good person I'm sure we'd all like to be.For a 20 year old film, the blu ray is definitely better than the dvd, but not reference material. Not that that matters when the film is this enjoyable.

The best Thanksgiving Day film for all the family
This is the best Thanksgiving Day film in our opinion. Bill Murray is excellent and the humour never lets up from the first scene to the last. If you're from the UK and want to know what Thanksgiving Day is all about, this is as good a place to start as any! We particularly liked Bill's dead-pan delivery of jokes. A true masterclass in acting.

A classic, but the digital version is marred by PAL speedup.
A timeless classic that can be watched over and over again.HEADS UP: The Amazon Video version that you can purchase / stream seems to be the PAL version as it's quite clear there's nasty speed up which, if you're used to watching the NTSC version, makes everyone sound like a chipmunk. Come on Amazon, sort it out.

Old favourite.
This has worn well and sort of come into the language now as a description of when events seem to keep repeating themselves. Good performances and well made film.
